Thesis Title: Surfacing: a psychoanalytic and phenomenological study of the body's boundary

About

My Master's thesis research collaboratively engages the phenomenology of Maurice Merleau-Ponty and the psychoanalytic work of Didier Anzieu and in so doing, aims to probe the relation of the interior of the body-self (psychical as well as physical interiority) to the exterior world, as it is mediated in, on and through the surface of the body. My work seeks to articulate the body’s surface as the ongoing relation between interiority and exteriority, a structure of perception that is lived in the material body as a continuous enfolding, where inner and outer realms remain distinct and yet absolutely dependent on one another.

Informed and supported by an studio practice of contemporary dance and performance art, my work moves through the intersection of scholarly and creative practice.
